INFO: SMTP Response codes

Description:

The follow tables details the typical response codes encountered using the mailRelay and mailFeed services. The 'prefix' and and 'specific response' are formatted 'Prefix: ' where the prefix is not empty, otherwise just the specific response is returned.

Temporary 4xx HST-RTE Hourly send rate exceeded, retry later. Applies to standard packages only.
Temporary 4xx HST-RTE Daily send rate exceeded, retry later Applies to standard packages only.
Permanent 5xx SND-NUL High Null sender rate High volume of NDR/bounce messages encountered which is typical of a compromised host.
Permanent 5xx   Restricted characters in address The address contains characters that do not conform to RFC2822
Permanent 5xx SND-VFY Sender domain does not exist The sender domain does not resolve in DNS
Permanent 5xx RPT-VFY Recipient domain does not exist The recipient domain does not resolve in DNS
