FAQ: How to configure an iPhone or iPad to retrieve email using POP3/IMAP

To configure your iPhone or iPad (iOS device) to retrieve email complete the following steps:

1. From the Home screen choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts > Add Account

2. Click 'Other' for the account type

3. Click on 'Add Mail Account'

4. Enter your Name, Email Address, Password and a description then click 'Next'

5. Select 'IMAP' then complete both the both the 'Incoming' and 'Outgoing' server sections:

    • Host name =  'mail.example.com'
    • Username = Full email address, e.g. 'mail@example.com' (lowercase)
    • Password =

6. Click Next, the new account settings will be validated and should now be accesible.


Important:

It is possible that your mobile service provider will block access to the default SMTP (outgoing) port as an antispam measure. In this case you will need to go to your account properties (Home screen > Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts > account name). Next select 'SMTP' then the 'Primary Server' and finally change the 'Server Port' to '587' and click 'Done'. Your iPhone should now be able to send email.
