INFO: Mail Server names (FQDNs) for Linux based packages

Applies to:

  • Linux Hosting Packages
  • WordPress Hosting Packages

Description:

To simplify access to email we provide unified server names for application and webmail based access to email. When configuring an email client, such as Outlook or Mac Mail, or on an Android or iOS based device please use the following server names to ensure a secure connection can be negotiated:

  • Incoming (IMAP)
    • Server: vmail.hosting-platform.uk
    • Port: 993
    • Security: Yes / SSL
  • Outgoing (SMTP)
    • Server: vmail.hosting-platform.uk
    • Port: 587
    • Security: Yes / STARTTLS

Note: It is important that you specify logon details for both the incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) servers otherwise you will be able to receive email but not send. The username is your email address in lowercase and the password that you specified when creating the mailbox via the Client Portal or DirectAdmin.

For Webmail access please use:

https://vwebmail.hosting-platform.uk

Important: It is possible for you to access email via the underlying server name (e.g. vlinweb[x].hosting-platform.uk) or using a vanity FQDN (e.g. mail.example.com) but this is not supported. Whilst it may work when you initially connect there is no guarantee that it will continue to work and may be completely withdrawn in future without notice.
